Bridge to Dentistry: Awareness to Graduation
|
|
 |
In
Texas, a critical need for dentists from disadvantaged backgrounds
is not being met because of the small number of disadvantaged students
attending dental school. Many applicants may be discouraged before
applying due to scholastic records, or the lack of academic and social
support. This project is a comprehensive program designed to assist
disadvantaged applicants in successful entry, retention and graduation
from dental school.
The following activities are being conducted to meet this goal: |
|
- Project
Dental Awareness - a program which is designed to increase students'
awareness of dental health and dental careers. Hands-on activities
are conducted with elementary school students, and older students
visit Baylor College of Dentistry for awareness activities.
- Summer
Enrichment Programs - programs for high school students to enhance
study skills, prepare for the SAT and DAT, and to increase their
competitiveness for admission to dental school.
- Post-Baccalaureate
Program - a year-long program to provide students with baccalaureate
degrees an opportunity to gain admission into Baylor College of
Dentistry upon successful completion of the program.
