The
long-term goal of this project is to identify novel genes involved
in transgene silencing mechanisms and to characterize their operation
in normal development. In addition to providing new insight into
genetic control systems of transgene expression, this understanding
will lead to the strategic design of future transgene constructs
that will not be sensed by the recipient genome as being alien.
This essentially represents the establishment of genetic "stealth"
technology to make transgenes capable of eluding normal genome
surveillance mechanisms. A major focus of the research is to learn
about gene expression and how to make transgenes express reliably.
