Management Status of Spinner Dolphins

Spinner dolphin research is being conducted at the Midway Atoll. These dolphins are known for their spectacularly high jumps; they gained their name from their playful habit of spinning in the air vertically and horizontally during their leaps from the water. Like most dolphins, spinner dolphins travel in groups (called pods) for safety from predators; these pods range in size from a few to as many as 200 or more dolphins.
