To remedy
current travel forecasting model deficiencies, the Federal Highway
Administration, the Federal Transit Administration, the Office of
the Secretary, U.S. Department of Transportation, and the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency have initiated the Travel Model Improvement Program
(TMIP) to enhance current models and develop new procedures. TMIP
is a cooperative effort among organizations involved in transportation,
land development, and environmental protection. This project provides
support for the deployment of new techniques to local planning agencies
and state governments. The support includes creation and distribution
of brochures, newsletters and material describing TMIP. Presentations
are given throughout the country to decision makers, and other stakeholders.
Training courses are conducted through the National Highway Institute,
and technical assistance on travel forecasting related issues is provided
to planning agencies. |
