Texas A&M Research Foundation
Announces 2007 JoAnn Treat Research Excellence Recipient
The
Texas A&M Research Foundation announced the recipient
of the 2007 JoAnn Treat Research Excellence at their Annual
Councilor/Trustee Fall meeting on November 30, 2007. This
year's recipient is Dr. Alexey Belyanin, Associate Professor,
Physics Department at Texas A&M University.
Dr.
Alexey Belyanin received his Ph.D. from the Russian Academy
of Sciences in 1995. He joined the Department of Physics as
an Assistant Professor in the Fall 2003, after holding research
positions at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian
Academy of Sciences and Texas A&M. Dr. Belyanin was granted
early tenure in spring 2007. He has published papers in Nature
and major physics journals, received a National Science Foundation
(NSF) CAREER award, and leads Texas A&M effort in two
NSF-funded multi-university consortiums. He has developed
a new graduate course, taught several service courses, and
serves as a faculty advisor for the A&M Chapter of the
Society of Physics Students. He has served on several NSF
review panels and as a chair of major international conferences.
Dr.
Belyanin received a $10,000 cash award, a commemorative plaque
and will also have his name recorded on the JoAnn Treat commemorative
glass vase displayed in the Research Foundation lobby.
