Jo Ann Treat Research Excellence Award
Background
In 2003 in honor of JoAnn Treat, who had been associated with the Texas A&M Research Foundation for over 38 years and served as President of the Foundation for 19 years, the Board of Trustees established the JoAnn Treat Research Excellence Award. Jo Ann first joined the Research Foundation in December 1964. She rose through the ranks, being named President and Chief Executive Officer in February 1985. She served in that position for eighteen years until her retirement in 2004.
The JoAnn Treat Award is given, in alternate years, to (a) all researchers at any of The Texas A&M University System Members who have reached the age of 41 or older by December 31, of the year of the award, or (b) all researchers who have not reached the age of 41 by December 31, of the year of the award.
Nominations for this award are initiated by researchers and presented to their respective College Dean or Associate Agency Director or Assistant Agency Director or their equivalent. Each College Dean or Associate Agency Director or Assistant Agency Director or their equivalent may forward one nomination to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs assembles a group of researchers to make a final review of the nominations received and then forwards a rank ordered list of three finalists to the Texas A&M Research Foundation President and JoAnn Treat. A final candidate is then forwarded to the Research Foundation Executive Committee for final approval as the recipient of the JoAnn Treat Research Excellence Award. The recipient of the award will be announced at the annual Research Foundation Councilor Meeting in December.
The Award recipient will receive a commemorative plaque and a $10,000 cash award. The recipient's name will also be recorded on the JoAnn Treat commemorative glass vase displayed in the Research Foundation lobby.
