If I have a question that I don't see in Frequently Asked Questions, what should I do?
Contact your Research Foundation Proposal Administrator -- see list at
http://rf-web.tamu.edu/preaward/proposaladm.html
The Grants.gov site mentions that an applicant needs a DUNS Number. Do I need one?
NO, the Research Foundation already has a DUNS Number; when we submit the proposal for you, it will use our DUNS Number.
Do
I need to register with the Central Contractor Registry (CCR)?
NO, the Research Foundation is already registered.
Where can I find grant opportunities?
Grants.gov maintains a searchable funding opportunity site through which you
can register for e-mailed notices of programs in which you are interested. You
can sign-up by clicking the "Grant Opportunity Subscription Services"
link on the left of the "Find Grant Opportunities" screen. Then, select
the options that best meet your search criteria and complete the necessary fields
on the sign-up screen.
-- You can also find a list of the applications that are currently available on Grants.gov by clicking the "Available Grant Application Packages" link on the "Find Grant Opportunities" screen.
Where
can I find the Funding Opportunity or CFDA Number for a grant?
In order to locate a Funding Opportunity or CFDA Number, you will need to perform
a search for a grant. Click the "Search Grant Opportunities" link
located on the "Find Grant Opportunities" screen. Complete the "Search
Grant Opportunities" screen and click the "Submit" button. The
results will display all applicable grants. The Funding Opportunity Number is
listed on the "Results" screen and the CFDA Number is listed in the
Grant Announcement.
Do
I need to complete all of the fields on the Search screen to find a grant?
NO, you only need to complete one field to search for a grant, however, we suggest
that you complete as many as possible to narrow your search.
How do I apply for a grant?
Determine which funding opportunity applies to your proposal and then contact
your Research Foundation Proposal Administrator (PA) to begin the submission
process.
Must
I download the application package?
NO, you only need to inform your PA of the exact program to which you are applying
and he or she will download the application package via the PureEdge Viewer
software.
Exactly what do I need to do to complete the application?
You will work with your PA to finalize the budget and provide routing text a
couple of weeks prior to submission and then you will provide the final text
to be uploaded to Grants.gov no later than 1 week prior
to submission.
Is there a specific format to use when sending my PA the Grants.gov proposal
files?
YES, the required documents (Project Description, References, Biosketches, etc.)
will need to be sent to your PA in PDF format.
If you do not have the software to create a PDF file, we can convert your files.
Are there any extra steps if I include a subcontract or a collaborator at
another university?
YES, this takes more time, as we need the subcontractor or collaborator to provide
us with university-approved documents prior to our submission. Please allow
additional time when including subcontracts and collaborators.
Are there different instructions if I am using a Macintosh computer?
YES, if you want the RF to upload your files to Grants.gov, send them to us
in PDF format as mentioned above, or if you want to upload the documents yourself
please confer with your assigned PA for advice. There are compatibility problems
with PureEdge Viewer and Macintosh computers.
How do I know that my application has been received by Grants.gov?
The Research Foundation will receive a series of e-mails from Grants.gov and
from the funding agency informing us of the receipt and acceptance of the proposal.
NOTE: IF THERE ARE ACCEPTANCE PROBLEMS WITH THE
PROPOSAL, THESE NEED TO BE ADDRESSED PRIOR TO THE DEADLINE.
What happens if I submit my application after the filing deadline?
Grants.gov will acknowledge the receipt of your application. Your application
may or may not be accepted and processed by the Federal agency based on the
policy of that particular agency. To determine the policy of the agency, contact
the agency directly with the contact information provided in the application
instructions. NOTE: WE DO NOT ANTICIPATE AGENCIES
ACCEPTING LATE PROPOSALS.
Are
there different instructions & guidelines for different funding agencies?
YES, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), for instance, have a more complex
submission process involving submission through Grants.gov and validation in
their eRA Commons system by the Principal Investigator. Please check with your
proposal administrator for specific instructions on NIH submissions.
Any other important information we need to know?
YES, this site will be updated as more questions arise. Please feel free to
send your questions via e-mail to your Proposal Administrator. Check this site
occasionally for updates.
