IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM NIH REGARDING APPLICATION SUBMISSION:

Please be aware that as of January 25, 2011, NIH eliminated the two-day error correction window for submitted proposals.

Although the error correction window is going away, the application viewing window is here to stay.  You have two business days, after your application is error free and the assembled application image is available in eRA Commons, to preview the same document that will be seen by reviewers.  Note that it sometimes takes a day or two for Grants.gov and eRA Commons to process your application and check for errors.

Some helpful advice that came to us from NIH:  It is important to catch errors while you still have time to correct them.  Build enough time into your submission schedule to carefully review the application image and make any needed adjustments BEFORE the deadline.  The new NIH policy on post-submission application materials (NOT-OD-10-115) restricts post-submission changes to those resulting from unforeseen administrative issues and eliminates the chance of replacing an out-of-date biosketch or incorrect version of Specific Aims post-submission.  Once your application viewing window elapses or the deadline hits (whichever comes first), your submission must be complete.

The Research Foundation anticipates that NIH will continue to experience a high volume of proposals on or near deadline dates.  There is often a lag time between the time you submit a proposal through Grants.gov and it is viewable in eRA Commons.  If the lag time causes errors to be identified after the deadline time, then the proposal will likely be rejected without review.  Please work with your Research Foundation Proposal Administrator to submit your proposal early so that it can be validated by Grants.gov and viewed in eRA Commons before the due date.
